Graduate Programmes at the Centre for European Studies, Jagiellonian University in Krakow

The MA programme in European Studies is composed of high-level postgraduate courses taught in English. Students will take classes from the core, key, speciality, and optional categories according to their academic specialisation and personal interest. The maximum duration of studies is 4 semesters.

Objectives

This programme is designed to provide students with advanced and interdisciplinary knowledge of contemporary European affairs. Our focus is the study of the political, economic and cultural character of Central and Eastern Europe and the European Union.

Specialisations

The MA degree with which student graduate reflects one of 5 study tracks:

EU Studies Specialisation
Central and Eastern European Studies Specialisation
Europeanisation and Governance in Central and Eastern Europe Specialisation
Central and Eastern European Studies: Research Track
Studies in the Holocaust and Totalitarian Systems Specialty

Internships and Extracurricular Academic Opportunities

CES students are invited to take advantage of the internship and volunteer opportunities available to them. The Jagiellonian University cooperates with numerous important research centres in Europe, and the Centre for European Studies has contacts with local organisations and NGOs that could provide students with the opportunity to become acquainted with the contemporary goals, challenges and progress of Krakow’s best independent institutions. Additionally, it is recommended that students take part in the multitude of conferences and workshops organised in Poland and Europe by submitting abstracts and papers to be presented to an international audience. CES staff is available to help locate and prepare for these opportunities.

Study Trips

Undergraduate students are also encouraged to take part in our study trips as a fun way to complement classroom learning and to see for themselves the transformations in Central and Eastern Europe. Every semester, an integration trip and one week-long educational trip (which is covered by the cost of tuition) are organised for students to enjoy and gain practical experience on the topics they are learning about. Students visit with local government officials, EU representatives, cultural and social organisations.
