Plainfield, IL— September 2013— Franciszek Mroz said he won the lottery by staying true to his favorite numbers. “I have been playing the same numbers for six months and they finally hit. I still can’t believe I won $300,000 with my lucky numbers,” said the Plainfield resident who was on his way home after dropping off his son at work when he stopped at a local 7-Eleven store to purchase his Lucky Day Lotto ticket.
The following day Mroz returned to the store to check his ticket. The manager scanned the ticket and said, “You won $300K.” Mroz replied, “$300 that’s great.” Then the manager corrected him and said, “No sir. You’ve won $300,000.” In shock Mroz saw that his ticket matched all five numbers – 7 – 13 – 15 – 17 – 21 – in the July 3 Lucky Day Lotto midday drawing. He immediately signed his ticket and went home to tell his wife. Later they both went to the Lottery Claim Center in Chicago to confirm the win. “She won’t believe it until she sees the check.”
The Plainfield residents plan to share the winnings with their seven children, buy a new car and possibly travel to their native country of Poland. “Every year we ship clothes to family in Poland. Because of this lottery win, we will be able to send them much more than clothes, and we may deliver it personally!” When asked if he had any advice for other lottery players Mroz responded, “Keep playing and don’t give up.”
The winning ticket was purchased at 7Eleven, 17W619 West Roosevelt Road, in Oakbrook Terrace. The lucky retailer received a $3,000 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
