In a partnership with the Chicago Department of Animal Care and Control, City Clerk Miguel del Valle announces that the theme of the Fourteenth Annual City Clerk’s Vehicle Sticker Art Design Contest is “Dog Friendly Chicago.”

"By registering your dog through our office you are helping save the lives of animals by supporting the city’s spay and neuter programs," stated City Clerk Miguel del Valle.

All Chicago high school students, grades 9-12, are invited to submit artwork highlighting the City of Chicago’s efforts to make Chicago a dog friendly city, including dog friendly areas, bringing dogs to outdoor cafes, and the benefits of registering a dog with the city. Entries must be submitted to the City Clerk’s office by 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2008.  The title of the theme is “Dog Friendly Chicago” and must incorporate the image of a dog. The dog must be wearing a City of Chicago dog registration tag.

"City Clerk del Valle’s dog registration program gives our office the critical support we need to meet the city’s goal of reuniting lost pets to their owners and finding every adoptable animal a home," said Animal Care and Control Acting Executive Director Sandra Alfred.

The goal of the art contest is to create city-wide awareness on a selected topic and have high school students from all over the city participate with their government in an educational and creative way. A panel of independent professionals, including artists, civic leaders and local media celebrities will review all entries and vote for the top ten finalists. The artwork of the ten finalists will be voted on by the public.

The student winner will receive a $1,000 savings bond from City Clerk del Valle and the artwork will appear on approximately 1.3 million automobile Chicago city stickers beginning in June 2009. Second and third place contestants will receive $500 and $250 savings bonds respectively. The seven remaining finalists will each receive $100 savings bonds.

Students or teachers who would like to participate in the Vehicle Sticker Art Design Contest should visit City Clerk del Valle’s web site at www.ChiCityClerk.com. _______________________________________________________________________________
