Lt. Governor Candidate, Scott Lee Cohen Travels Illinois To Highlight Local Jobs
SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Today, Scott Lee Cohen, candidate for Lieutenant Governor (D), announced the launch date of his "Main Street Tour." On Tuesday, January 5, 2010, Cohen will leave for a weeklong tour that will include visits to 22 communities. Cohen will address local job creation and highlight his plans to strengthen the Illinois Main Street Program and provide economic recovery in towns and cities across the state.
Tour stops include:
Bloomington; Decatur; Champaign; Waukegan; Elgin; Rockford; Batavia; Chicago; Berwyn; Rock Island; Moline; Quincy; Springfield; Jacksonville; Danville; Belleville; Carbondale; and Plainfield, IL.
The Illinois Main Street Program, which is traditionally managed by the Office of Lieutenant Governor, is a preservation-based, downtown revitalization program that has been volunteer-driven and minimally funded. Since its inception, designated communities have reported net gains of more than 1,600 new downtown businesses and reinvestment of more than $575 million in Main Street downtowns.
At the current level of funding, the Main Street Program has created more than 6,000 new full and part-time jobs. Cohen believes that enhancing the program can provide strong creation of local jobs throughout the state.
"With adequate funding and professional staffing working together with community volunteers, the Illinois Main Street Program can generate thousands of new, high-paying jobs close to where employees live," said Cohen.
Scott Lee Cohen will be available for interviews throughout the tour. To schedule an interview and for a complete listing of tour stops, please contact Baxter Swilley at 217.523.1399.
Scott Lee Cohen is a successful small business owner who has been holding job fairs and connecting people to jobs right now. Scott is not a career politician. In fact, Scott is founder of the citizens group, Rod Must Resign, which he started to help remove Rod Blagojevich from office. Scott's experience with Rod Must Resign encouraged him to continue his fight for ethical government. Currently, Scott operates Cohen's Green Cleaning supplies, a distributor of environmentally friendly cleaning products. As Lieutenant Governor, Scott will focus on job creation and recruit business to relocate in Illinois. He will continue to hold job fairs across the state and connect Illinois' residents with job opportunities.
